4 Days of Juicing and What Does Mind and Spirit have to do with Nutrition...

I am sure a few of you have wondered at times why I share some of the things I do on facebook.  lol.

In dealing with any health issue in nutrition, there is always a common thread that underlies and connects the whole person and that is emotion, thought systems, belief patterns, and past/ present experiences.  It is those moments where you experience great stress or emotion and you feel that ache pain in your gut that radiates straight through to your back.  That feeling of wanting to be sick when you reach for the food you know your body needs but your mind just can't handle.  There are so many examples I could give of the way we carry and wear our stories like weights allowing it to unintentionally effect our well being as a person.

We have not been taught in our society that there is connection between the well being of our mind body and spirit.  It has just been the last few decades that their has been an awakening to a belief in the interconnection of our entire well being.  Predominately in the past ten years.  There are so many cultures around the world who have lived and taught the affects of beliefs and experiences in dis-ease and  illness.  The part that many don't appreciate in this model is the self responsibility to our own health.

"When we shift our attitudes, we can change our entire lives."
-Elson M. Haas,  MD

"The greatest discovery of any generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering the attitudes of their minds"
-Albert Schweitzer

Taking control of our thoughts, dealing with our past hurts, experiences and writing a new story can have a profound impact on our health and body as a whole, not to mention the way we begin to experience the world, the way we experience life.

Our cultures ever increasing struggle weight and obesity is a perfect example of this. As Elson M. Haas so perfectly put it in Staying Healthy With Nutrition.

"The appetite is often a reflection of inner contentment. Many people override their appetite mechanism through regular eating and do not really experience hunger.  When we are emotionally upset, feeling insecure or depressed, for example we may loose our appetite.  This is the appropriate response, since the body does not process food well during these times.  Not eating allows us to go within more easily to explore our feelings, or let us express our emotions more freely."
-Elson M. Haas

However if you are not wanting to feel those feelings or are avoiding the emotions you may stuff them in and numb with food.  The cleaner we eat, the clearer we think, feel, react. A huge part of loosing weight successfully is dealing with the emotions under the weight that you have avoided, the part of you that you have avoided.  It is about identifying patterns and retraining the mind and reactions.

"Being aware of the need for nourishment via hunger and then relaxing and preparing the body to receive wholesome food in a comfortable setting are important prerequisites for healthy eating."
- Elson M. Haas-

Kahlil Gibran reminded us how we are all part of a cycle, how we need to treat eating as an act of remembrance, acknowledging and celebrating the part everything plays in our and its existence.

"Would that you could live on the fragrance of the earth, and like an air plant be sustained by the light....And when you crush an apple with your teeth, say to it in your heart, your seeds shall live in my body, and the buds of your tomorrow shall blossom in my heart, and your fragrance shall be my breath, and together we shall rejoice through all the seasons".
-Kahlil Gibran

If the food we consume has a large responsibility for our health, our thoughts are definitely a part of our being , a part of our well being, they are our story.

Please feel free to share your story be in the comments on here, on facebook or through Private Message.  We all have a story, lets celebrate it.
